Our session is going to cover the long-term bull case for investing in emerging market equities and why investing here should have a cornerstone place in your portfolio. We will cover a brief history of why returns in the past were disappointing and why all the signs point towards the future being rewarding for the patient investor. Will these advanced algorithms replace the work done by Advisers and Asset Manager, or reinforce the benefits of active human ingenuity? Meanwhile, something less ‘science fiction’ is a more clear and present danger for Advisers: the new lower allowance for Capital Gains Tax. In this presentation, George Fox (Investment Manager, Jupiter Merlin team) will explain why the solution is unitised, actively managed portfolios which combine the best of the human brain with algorithmic processes whilst protecting clients' assets from the impairment of long-term gains through taxation.

2022 was a difficult year in the industry – bonds didn’t diversify stocks and many multi-asset funds didn’t diversify one another. If one lesson was learnt off the back of this, it was that name diversification does not equal fundamental diversification. In this presentation, we highlight the importance of true fundamental diversification against the backdrop of the value versus growth cycle, the importance of rebalancing, and how a well-diversified, regularly rebalanced portfolio can improve outcomes in the decumulation phase.

Chris Ellis Thomas is part of a team responsible for developing, assembling and managing investment solutions involving multiple strategies and asset classes within the EMEA Wealth Solutions team within Multi-Asset Strategies & Solutions (MASS). Chris focuses on UK wealth model clients, Thematic investment strategies and large outsourced investment mandates. Chris is co-portfolio manager on the BGF Multi-Theme Equity Fund and lead strategist/CIO on the MyMap and 1895 (Rabobank) fund ranges.

Amy joined TIME Investments in February 2022 with a focus on building and maintaining relationships with our key strategic partnership clients. Prior to this, Amy spent three years at BNY Mellon Investment Management. In her role as Strategic Account Manager, Amy works closely with financial advice networks and professional bodies, providing support to them and their underlying clients. Amy graduated with BSC Hons in Economics from the University of Portsmouth and holds the Investment Management Certificate.
George Rolls joined M&G in 2017 from Close Brothers Asset Management where he had worked as a senior performance and risk analyst for three years. At M&G, George was a fund managers’ assistant covering global equity strategies for two years before moving to the UK Equities team as an investment specialist and then on to the Emerging Markets Equities team. He graduated from the University of Manchester with a BA in Politics and Philosophy, and is a Level III candidate in the CFA program.
George joined Jupiter in November 2018 as an Analyst in the Jupiter Independant Funds Team, which is responsible for managing the Jupiter Merlin Portfolios. In June 2021, George was promoted to Assistant Investment Manager before being promoted to Investment Manager in July 2022. Before joining Jupiter, George graduated in the summer of 2018 with a First Class Honours degree in History. George received his Investment Management Certificate in 2019 and his CFA charter in April 2022.
Business Development Manager James Amy, Bachelor of Arts, Economics and Geography. James joined Orbis in 2017 as Business Development Manager for the firm’s UK retail initiative, with responsibility for building the UK Intermediary client base through direct engagement. He was previously Head of International Business Development at Nedgroup Investments.
Lloyd Harris joined Premier Miton in August 2020. He was previously at Merian Global Investors (2012-2020), where he was manager of the Merian Corporate Bond Fund and co-manager of the Merian Financials Contingent Capital Fund. He has also worked at Cutwater Asset Management (2007-2011), initially as an asset-backed CP/MTN trader, then as a European financials credit analyst, and before this, he worked in structured capital markets at Deutsche Bank (2002-2007).
Liam Davis, CFA, Director, Client CIO sits within the Wealth Solutions team within Multi-Asset Strategies & Solutions (MASS). The Wealth Solutions team is responsible for developing, assembling and managing investment solutions involving multiple strategies and asset classes for wealth clients in the region.
