11:55 - 12:30 Lifetime Allowance - to 75 and beyond!

Working out how to spend £1 million in retirement might seem a nice problem to have. However, a little more than that in your pension pot and you could see a 55% deduction from any funds over the lifetime allowance (LTA). The good news is that there’s a lot financial planners can do to help overcome this scenario, not just at the initial point of taking benefits, but later too. With a second test at age 75, it is important to be aware of the different treatment of benefits at that stage and, importantly, what can be done in the meantime to produce better client outcomes. In this session, Just will provide a reminder of the rules and some of the strategies that can be used prior to, and at the point of, the ‘second benefit crystallisation event’. They will also consider the treatment of different types of plan and their use in the retirement journey.

By attending this session, you will be able to:

  • Understand the tax treatment of pension benefits above the lifetime allowance
  • Recognise the main planning considerations around the lifetime allowance at age 75
  • Discuss different strategies relating to the lifetime allowance

These are extraordinary times: more than a decade of extraordinary actions by central banks and governments has resulted in high asset prices and very low yields. Now, inflation is making the need to earn decent returns even more pressing. Multi-Asset solutions have been and will remain a core part of the answer for low to medium risk savers. Can Multi-Asset solutions continue to deliver in this tougher environment? In this presentation, Jupiter’s Multi-Asset team will explain how this situation has evolved, investigate what the consequences are, and describe how Multi-Asset solutions can be retooled to help investors protect and grow their capital.

Learning objectives

  • Explain how policymakers have driven yields down, prices up, and caused inflation
  • Investigate the consequences for savers looking into the future
  • Describe the tools available to investors to achieve a better financial future

Speaker: Matthew Morgan, Jupiter Asset Management

13:55 - 14:30 Tax planning is more important than ever – a topical, virtual case study

The Government’s approach to replenishing the fiscal hole left by the costs of the pandemic is to substantially increase stealth taxation and introduce the Health and social Care levy – with equivalent tax increases for dividends. Never has there been a more important time for advisers to discuss tax planning strategies with clients. This case study will consider topical tax planning opportunities in light of evolving tax policy and will summarise all the important tax allowances and exemptions that clients should currently be using. It will also focus on intergenerational tax planning.

This session will give the delegate;

  • An understanding of important recent tax changes that impact on personal financial planning
  • An overview of current intergenerational planning strategies
  • An understanding of the key tax and NIC implications of trading through a limited company or on a self-employed basis
  • An understanding of the main principles involved in chargeable event tax calculations and appropriate planning to reduce tax
  • An appreciation of current estate planning techniques including the preservation of the residence nil rate band and
  • The key points of the Trust Registration Scheme
