2019 was an exceptional year in the intermediated mortgage market, what lies ahead in 2020 and beyond? How will the fast-evolving technology in this sector aid IFAs and Mortgage advisers and what threats/challenges will this bring?
In this session, we take a look at how market conditions today are creating demand for specialist finance. Increasing loan to income ratios, product transfers and longer-term fixed rate mortgages are creating the perfect storm for intermediaries. We take you through these market factors to understand the implications on your business, and how you can use specialist finance solutions to help your clients.
Given the recent rise in popularity of equity release as well as other forms of later life lending, the issue of vulnerability is once again in the spotlight as the regulator starts to turn up the heat on this vitally important topic. With half of all UK adults displaying one or more characteristics of being potentially vulnerable (and with that figure likely to be higher amongst the over-55s), what is the industry already doing about spotting and dealing with vulnerable clients and what more should it do? Should potentially vulnerable clients ever be recommended to take on substantial debt in later life? In our presentation we will set the scene by looking at the current growth of equity release and its uses. We will also consider future growth drivers such as the use of housing equity to help pay for social care and in turn the additional due diligence that will fall upon the shoulders of advisers making recommendations for later life loans to potentially vulnerable people. We will also share some of the outputs from adviser research we have conducted on the subject of vulnerability and consider some of the ways in which the industry can react to meet the highest quality bars of advice set by the regulator for the protection of vulnerable clients.

Coventry for intermediaries will give an update on the current size of the refinance area of the mortgage market and the opportunity it brings, as well as some potential future market changes and disruption. The session will also cover the importance of regular customer contact and how technology will develop to give intermediaries and their customers more options. They will also discuss the important part intermediaries play in ensuring customers get advice.
