The Personal Finance Society’s regional conferences offer members a full day of topical and insightful business updates plus relevant CPD. The day will include a varied and note-worthy set of presentations delivered by a number of leading subject matter experts. These events also offer key opportunities for networking and sharing good practice with your professional peers, local to where you live and/or work.
There will be updates on research, new developments and initiatives from the Society, and your local PFS regional committee will be happy to share information about member services, qualifications and pro bono initiatives. The FCA team will also be hosting an exhibition stand at the event to network and answer any questions you may have.

Working out how to spend £1 million in retirement might seem a nice problem to have. However, a little more than that in your pension pot and you could see a 55% deduction from any funds over the lifetime allowance (LTA). The good news is that there’s a lot financial planners can do to help overcome this scenario, not just at the initial point of taking benefits, but later too. With a second test at age 75, it is important to be aware of the different treatment of benefits at that stage and, importantly, what can be done in the meantime to produce better client outcomes. In this session, Just will provide a reminder of the rules and some of the strategies that can be used prior to, and at the point of, the ‘second benefit crystallisation event’. They will also consider the treatment of different types of plan and their use in the retirement journey.

Now, inflation is making the need to earn decent returns even more pressing. Multi-Asset solutions have been and will remain a core part of the answer for low to medium risk savers. Can Multi-Asset solutions continue to deliver in this tougher environment? In this presentation, Jupiter’s Multi-Asset team will explain how this situation has evolved, investigate what the consequences are, and describe how Multi-Asset solutions can be retooled to help investors protect and grow their capital.
The Government’s approach to replenishing the fiscal hole left by the costs of the pandemic is to substantially increase stealth taxation and introduce the Health and social Care levy – with equivalent tax increases for dividends. Never has there been a more important time for advisers to discuss tax planning strategies with clients. This case study will consider topical tax planning opportunities in light of evolving tax policy and will summarise all the important tax allowances and exemptions that clients should currently be using. It will also focus on intergenerational tax planning.

Before joining Jupiter, Talib was Managing Director and portfolio manager at JPMorgan Asset Management where he worked for nearly 20 years. He was instrumental in the formation and growth of its Multi-Asset Solutions team and has managed a number of products including multi-asset income, target return and flexible balanced funds plus diversified institutional accounts. He began his investment career in 1998. Talib has an MSc in International Agricultural Marketing and is a CFA® charterholder.

Ben Cherrington is Head of Strategic Partnerships at LGIM. He joined LGIM from M&G where he spent 5 years in Singapore as Head of Intermediary Channels, Asia Pacific. Prior to relocating to Asia, he was Partnerships Development Director dealing with the UK's Life Company, Platform and Advisory community, also covering the Middle East and Asia in association with the International Life company partners. Previous to M&G, Ben worked as a Partnerships Sales Manager for New Star Asset Management. Ben started his career in Financial Services in 2001 with Skandia, within the Fund range marketing and selection team. Ben has a BA in Business Studies, specialising in Finance from Bournemouth University.

Andrew joined M&G in January 2015. At M&G, Andrew is responsible for managing the key Advisory and Discretionary relationships across the Midlands & South West regions within the Wholesale team. He is also a member of the UK marketing steering committee and has additional responsibilities in respect of ESG growth within the business. With over 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry, Andrew has a detailed understanding of both the Intermediary and Asset Management markets. Andrew has also held Business Development roles at Cornelian Asset Managers and Aviva. Andrew completed a BA Hons at The Nottingham Trent University and also holds the Diploma in Financial Planning. Away from work, Andrew enjoys being involved with his children’s various sporting activities in addition to his passion for golf.
John is a director of Wooltech Ltd, having previously been a director of Technical Connection Ltd for 25 years. John has several legal and tax qualifications including being a qualified TEP, a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. He has been involved in financial planning in the financial services sector for the last 30 years. He regularly contributes articles on tax planning to various journals as well as making guest attendances as a speaker at financial services and tax conferences. He is the author of Financial Planning with Trusts published by Claritax.
