Title – Powers, Practices, POAT and Protection
Delivered by Barry Michna DipFA - Training and Technical Manager ,Quilter Cheviot Technical Team.
Barry will explore explore how to get IHT calculations right , both now and post-April 2027, highlighting key traps and triggers and how protection planning can help provide certainty.

Barry has worked in Financial Services for over 40 years, bringing a wealth of experience across retail banking and financial planning. His career spans practitioner, supervision and leadership roles, giving him a deep understanding of client needs and the evolving regulatory landscape.
As Training & Technical Manager, Barry is responsible for developing and delivering training programs that support the navigation on complex financial planning strategies.
His focus is on simplifying technical concepts and sharing best practice.
Barry’s extensive background and commitment to professional development make him a trusted resource for industry professionals and clients alike.
James Ramsay:
Head of Adviser Solutions, PUMA Investments
James is responsible for enhancing Puma’s support for advisers .He returned to Puma in 2024 having worked at the company from 2013 to 2016 at the launch of Puma’s BR and EIS offers. More recently he worked at Apex Allenbridge, an independent reviewer in the tax efficient space, producing research and consulting to a number of the industry’s largest wealth managers. His previous experience working as a financial adviser and a private banker.
Phil Payandee
Senior Business Development Manager – Puma Investments Midlands Region
Phil is a Senior Business Development Manager from Puma Investments, and also sits on the committee for the PFS Birmingham Region. He works and resides in the Midlands and has been working in the industry since 2008. Phil joined Puma in 2022 from Vitality Invest. Before that he spent four years at LV as a Senior Retirement Consultant and nine years at MetLife as a Senior Business Development Manager focusing on income and capital guarantees for pension, ISA and bond clients.
